Experienced, Reputable Des Moines Attorney
Attorney Peter Berger knows criminal defense. For more than 30 years, he has been a trial lawyer, starting out as a law clerk for the Polk County Attorney's Office, then as a prosecutor in 1977. Soon, Mr. Berger became the prosecutor on all sex crimes in Polk County; then was assigned to the Major Offense Bureau handling all types of other major violent crimes. Then, after going into private practice in 1980, Attorney Berger was hired by Polk County as a special prosecutor on Iowa's first televised murder case. In addition, Mr. Berger is co-author of Iowa Criminal Forms, a text recognized by judges and fellow attorneys as the authoritative source for criminal court submissions.
His experience as a prosecutor helps him skillfully defend the rights of the accused and advocate for the rights of injured persons. The Berger Law Firm, PC serves clients in Des Moines and throughout Iowa, and in surrounding states as well.
Many of the personal injury cases we handle stem from traumatic injuries from falls; injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents, injuries caused by medical malpractice, such as surgical mistakes and misdiagnoses and injuries caused by dog bites, defective products or other negligence. Injuries in the workplace are evaluated and handled by the firm or in conjunction with other lawyers who specialize in Workers' Compensation. Cases may also include a lawsuit against a third party, or a co-worker if there is gross negligence.
Federal 1983 Claims ∙ Police Brutality
If you were a victim of police brutality or police misconduct, your constitutional rights have been violated. We take these matters seriously. Berger Law Firm is dedicated to assisting you in any type of Federal 1983 Claim that involves mistreatment by a police officer or other public safety official. While we understand that the police have dangerous and sometimes challenging jobs, it is certainly possible for them to cross the line between protecting the public and abusing suspects. If that line was crossed and you have suffered injury as a result, you may have a valid claim for recovery.
